The Serai, Candidasa
The Serai is a secluded, stylish retreat set amidst a coconut grove, surrounded by peaceful rice terraces while Mount Agung rises in the background. All rooms face the ocean with clear views across the Bandung Straits to Nusa Penida. Traditional Balinese architecture is combined with modern amenities to create a relaxed environment in harmony with the uncomplicated natural surroundings.

The hotel has a boutique, laundry service, IDD telephone, room service, satellite television and a tour desk that can arrange car rental for you. The Serai also has its own cooking school that offers from half to five-day courses, focusing on Indonesian, mainly Balinese, food. Half the day is spent in the kitchen, the other half exploring Bali from a culinary and cultural point of view. After trying this you may want to take advantage of the Mandara Spa (featuring traditional Indonesian and Balinese treatments from facials to aromatherapy massage) or the swimming pool (a central feature and designed in an unusual inverted pyramid) to burn off any excess calories! They also have trekking and mountain biking in the company of knowledgeable local guides. There is a complimentary transfer service to Candidasa and Tenganan Villages.

The 56 rooms and suites are in traditional two-storey thatched Balinese pavilions reminiscent of a Balinese village meeting hall. The Superior Rooms have a private terrace while the Deluxe Rooms on the upper level have a balcony with day bed. All rooms are designed to maximise the views across the coconut grove, the swimming pool and the beach. Each room has a safety deposit box.

The Serai has the perfect setting for an intimate wedding, either in the grounds or on the beach in front of the hotel (tides permitting).
