Mardia & Abi, 2024 Divemaster Interns

An Intensive “Zero‑to‑Hero” Programme

Running since 2012, this internship is designed to take participants from beginners to professional-level Divemasters within just six months. Interns—limited to just four annually—receive one-to-one mentorship from senior PADI instructors who carry decades of local diving experience.

In the first two months, interns complete their PADI Open Water and Advanced certifications, plus Emergency First Response (EFR), and move swiftly into Rescue Diver training. By April to June, the focus shifts to the PADI Divemaster course and on‑the‑job guiding practice. Upon certification in June, interns transition into real-world dive guiding, further enhancing their professional skills.

From July to November, the interns fully integrate with AquaMarine’s dive team—running trips, assisting divers, and developing logistics and customer-service expertise.

Introducing AMD-B’s 2025 Zero-to-Hero PADI Divemaster Interns

M. Alfari Ramadhan (Alfari). He is from Purwakarta, West Java, and graduated from Marine Tourism at Padjajaran University. Scuba Diving has been a transformative passion for him, not only as a recreational activity but a way to connect with the underwater world. Becoming a PADI Divemaster has the idea to deepen the skills he has, also expand the connections to the marine environment.

The other one is Hafid Rahman or you can call him Hafid (the one with OK signal). He is from Depok, West Java. Bachelor of Fisheries Science from Diponegoro University. His first scuba diving was in 2022 at Karimun Java, he saw a lot of marine life that gave a great impression to him to become a Professional Divers. Being a Divemaster can help him to share the beauty of the underwater world with others, and also to ensure the safety of the dive so they can enjoy their dives.

2025-Internship-Introduction

As with all past participants in AMD-B’s annual internship: After completion, Alfari and Hafid might stay with AMD-B (assuming we have vacancies) or move elsewhere to share their new-found knowledge.

Previous ‘graduates’ have worked in resorts and liveaboards throughout Indonesia, others stayed in Bali (most of them are now PADI Instructors!) and some returned to their studies.

We look forward to seeing Alfari and Hafid progress through the PADI courses up to Divemaster, and then gain experience with some of Indonesia’s most sought-after PADI Professional Dive Staff here at AMD-B.

11 Months PADI Divemaster Internship Journey

by Fahmi, AMD-B’s 2024 Divemaster Intern

It’s hard to believe that my 11 Months PADI Divemaster Internship with AquaMarine Diving – Bali is coming to an end. Looking back at everything I’ve experienced since January, it has been an amazing journey filled with growth and learning.

This month was particularly special because I got to be part of the interviews for the next intern. Watching the process reminded me of how nervous I felt at the start of my own internship. Seeing it from the other side made me realise just how much I’ve grown over the past year.

More Confident

One of the biggest change I’ve noticed is how much more confident I’ve become. I now feel prepared to handle all kinds of situations, including challenging or risky ones – thanks to my training. Diving in tough environments like Nusa Penida helped me develop the skills and mindset needed to succeed as a diver.

More Than Diving

This internship wasn’t just about diving; I learned a lot of other important skills too. I now understand how much work goes into preparing trips, managing time, and handling risks. I also learned how to do some basic office tasks and even got an introduction to sales, where I discovered how to connect with customers and make their experiences better.

Conservation Work

Conservation work was another highlight of my internship. Through Blue Project by AMD-B, I joined beach and underwater clean-ups, monitored coral bleaching, collected data, and wrote blogs and articles to raise awareness. With my marine science background, being part of these efforts was especially rewarding.

What’s Next?

One of the main reason I took on this internship was to travel and explore new places while pursuing my passion for diving. As my internship comes to an end, I’m excited to share that I’ve received my first job as a Divemaster at a dive centre in Gili Trawangan. While it’s not too far from Bali, it’s a great start to my journey, and I’m looking forward to experiencing a new environment. I’ll be moving there soon, and it feels like the perfect place to kick off this next step in my career.

I’m so grateful to AquaMarine Diving – Bali for everything they’ve taught me. This internship has prepared me for the future, and I can’t wait for what’s next.
